Lazarakia Bread in a Halogen Oven!

Lazarakia bread is a traditional Greek dessert bread typically enjoyed during the Orthodox Easter season.

These sweet, spiced bread rolls are typically shaped like a wraped man with his hands in a crossed position and decorated with spices usually, dried cloves. While traditionally baked in a conventional oven, it’s also possible to bake them in a halogen oven.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps to make delicious Lazarakia bread in a halogen oven.

Ingredients:

– 250g of all-purpose flour
– 125ml of warm water (here you can add orange juice)
– 1/2 teaspoon of dry yeast
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt
– 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
– 1 tablespoon of honey
– 1/4 cup of olive oil
– Dry Cloves for decoration

– 1 teaspoon of orange zest

Instructions:

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.

2. In a separate bowl, combine the warm water, honey, the orange zest and olive oil. Mix well.

3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until you have a smooth and elastic dough.

4. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

5. Preheat your halogen oven to 180°C.

6. Take the dough out of the bowl and knead it for a few minutes on a floured surface.

7. Divide the dough into 3 equal portions.



8. Roll each portion into a ball, and then roll it out. Take some small amount of dough and roll it out in a long strap in order to wrap it around.

9. After shaped lazarakia dough transfer it to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Put the cloves in the upper part of the dough.

10. Brush each Lazarakia bread roll with water.



11. Bake the Lazarakia bread in your halogen oven for 40 minutes or until they are golden brown ( it mabe sooner).

12. Once the bread rolls are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool.

14. Serve and enjoy!
